The choice of a domain will be the very first step to consider when planning to launch your blog.

It’s not an easy task. You may find it challenging to figure out that all interesting domain names have been registered.

Because of the inaccessibility of desirable names. A lot of people opt for an unpopular name and commit several typical errors.

To prevent these mistakes and make it easier for you I will give you 10 tips to choose the best domain name for your blog.

Tips For Choosing A Good Blog Domain Name

    1. Keyword Rich vs Branded Domain Name

The first step is to decide whether you would like to go with keywords-rich domains or a domain with a brand name.

If you’re not aware of the distinction between these two kinds of domains This is a good illustration for you.

    • Keyword Rich Domain Name: BestProducts.com
    • A Branded Domain Name TheWirecutter.com

Both are related to products. However, only the initial domain name has the word “Products”. It’s therefore a domain with a lot of keywords name. Second domain names are distinctive name that is more well-known than the initial.

Keywords Rich Domain can refer to two kinds of keywords: Exact Match Domain (EMD) and Partial Match Domain (PMD). Let’s look at an example:

    • Exact Match Domain: BestProductsForAcne.com
    • A partial match domain: BestProducts.com

EMD doesn’t look good. Many people used to purchase EMD to promote affiliate marketing. In the past, it was straightforward to rank a domain that was exactly match. However, things have changed. It’s now difficult to attain a high ranking using an EMD. It’s best to stay clear of EMD.

    2. Make it easy to pronounce and spell

Take a look at this domain’s names

    • Mashable.com
    • Problogger.com
    • Lifehacker.com

These sites are extremely popular. The most common feature is that it’s easy to spell and pronounce the domain names of these sites.

The domain you choose to use is your business. Make it easy to spell and pronounce. Do not use complicated or strange words. Make it easy to remember.

    3. Keep it simple and short

There is no perfect length for a domain’s name. Make sure to make it as short as you can. A domain name that is short is simple to remember. It’s a challenge to locate a verify domain availability that is short. I would suggest keeping your domain name to 10 words.

However, you must ensure you are sure that the domain address you choose to use is simple. Do not use complicated terms.

For instance, RoadToBlogging.com is not an extremely short domain name. It’s also simple.

    4. Make sure you choose The .com Extension

.com is one of the more used domain extensions.

The name is what people remember for your blog rather than the domain extension. If your domain has other extensions, such as .net or or.org, it may be a bit challenging to locate your blog.

Also, you should consider using that .com extension.

If the .com extension isn’t in use then you should consider other extensions that are popular, such as .net, .co, .org and so on.

    5. Avoid using numbers, Hyphens and Articles

It’s difficult to determine the domain with hyperbolas. Let’s suppose your site is Tech-tips.com. You must say “tech tech tips hyphen dot.com” to offline users. There’s a chance that a majority of people didn’t know about the hyphens and ended up going to techtips.com.

Similar things happen in the domain using articles or numbers. The people forget articles and numbers.

Even though some sites like Digital-photography-school.com, 9lessons.info, thewirecutter.com, etc are very popular, but these are exceptional. They’ve been in existence for quite a while.

Beware of the use of hyphens, numbers or any other articles that are based on your domain’s name.

Note: Check if your desired name is available for your social accounts and your website with the help of the name checker tool!

    6. Avoid Copyright & Trademark Violation

A violation of trademark or copyright rights can cause severe harm to your website. The blog could be shut down. any domain names.

Therefore, it is best to be cautious before selecting a domain name. Be sure that your domain name will not be able to be in conflict with other names used for commercial purposes.

For instance, you can’t include terms such as Facebook, WordPress, etc on your domain’s name.

But I am not an attorney. I am not able to assist you with legal advice. If you are confused you need to speak with an attorney.

    7. Singular Vs Plural

Take a look at the following two areas:

    • BestProducts.com
    • BestProduct.com

BestProducts.com is the primary domain name. However, some customers might go to BestProduct.com in place of BestProducts.com.

If your domain is containing something like this I’d suggest you purchase both domains. In this way, you will not perish in the eyes of users.

You can select one as your primary domain, and redirect it to the primary domain name.

    8. Check that Social URLs Are There

One of the essential things to do after buying a domain name is to secure social media URLs like https://facebook.com/yourdomain.

If you’re planning to devote more time to a particular social media platform It is best to make sure your preferred URL is accessible.

This tool is available for this purpose – knowem.com.

    9. Use Your Name as a Domain Name

If you’re unable to think of a suitable website name, then you could utilize your name as an alternative domain name.

A few bloggers are doing well with their personal names as domains.

    • SethGodin.com
    • MichaelHyatt.com
    • NeilPatel.com
    • AmyLynnAndrews.com

You could even choose to utilize a portion of your name as a domain name, such as Hongkiat.com. You can also incorporate a portion of your domain name to include other words such as HuffingtonPost.com, and GoinsWriter.com.

If you don’t have any plans to use your domain name it’s still recommended to get the domain, if it’s in your possession. It can be used later for a personal blog or portfolio website.
